The One Buncombe fund was established as a way to help the people of Asheville and the beloved small businesses that make the community so special. A donation to the One Buncombe fund fought the COVID-19 crisis head on by providing a critical financial lifeline to community members who had lost their jobs and to small businesses as they worked to stay afloat.
The One Buncombe fund grants for people in Asheville who had lost their jobs helped them with electric bills, mortgages, rent and other essential needs. Through One Buncombe, Small businesses based in Buncombe County could apply for low-interest loans up to $10,000 with no payments due for six months to help bridge the gap until longer-term disaster funding was available.
Local governments, including Buncombe County and the City of Asheville, joined forces with business leaders from the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Mountain BizWorks and the Land of Sky Regional Council to launch One Buncombe. The fund raised more than $1.4 million in donations.
