Buncombe County Parks, Greenways and Recreation Services (BCPG&R) operates four recreation parks, Karpen Soccer Field, five river parks and a nature preserve. Parks include: Lake Julian Park - fishing, boat rental and boat launch, sand volleyball and horseshoes. The Sports Park - seven soccer fields, six-hole disc golf course, kick ball diamond, bocce ball courts, walking trail and sand volleyball court. Charles D. Owen Park - Two Fishing Lakes, Fishing Pier, Fish Feeder, walking trail, baseball fields, basketball courts. Official North Carolina Birding Trail. Hominy Valley Park - baseball fields, basketball courts, sand volleyball and pool. In addition, parks have picnic tables, grills, playgrounds and restrooms. Collier Cove Nature Preserve is a new park added in 2014 with hiking trails - no restrooms. The river parks - picnic tables, grills and boat launches for small watercraft. There are no restrooms at the river parks. BCPG&R sponsors special community events throughout the year and provides high-quality programming for all ages.
