Shopping Daze
This forged-metal representation of three well-heeled and hatted ladies with a small dog in tow commemorates an era when Haywood Street was the epicenter of fashionable shopping. During the 1970's "season of malls," much of downtown's commercial life left the city, only to return as one-of-a-kind, locally-owned shops, together comprising one of the most intriguing and energetic shopping districts in the Southeast. (Ironwork by sculptors Tekla and Dan Howachyn and UNCA professor Tucker Cooke.)
