The Flatiron Building
The Flatiron Building
Named for its triangular wedge shape and carrying the same handle as its taller cousin in Manhattan, the Flatiron welcomes walkers to the entrance of Wall Street, a tree-lined lane of shops and restaurants radiating charm and conviviality. Albert Wirth designed this eight-story office building, faced with limestone, using Beaux Arts detailing. An operator-run elevator still jostles visitors between floors, a salute to triangular life in the big city.
