In Asheville, “family friendly” means you can eat well, breathe easy, and let kids be kids while you do you.
Some places make it simple with quick counter service. Others win with a patio, a little room to roam, and food that keeps everyone happy. Below are go-to spots for families, plus breweries where kids are welcome and parents can actually relax.
Where can families eat in Asheville without stress?
S&W Market
There’s something comforting about a food hall when you’re traveling with kids. The pressure drops. No one has to compromise. Everyone gets exactly what they want.
S&W Market lives inside a beautifully restored Art Deco building downtown, and the variety is what makes it magic for families. One parent might head for crispy fried chicken at Buxton Chicken Palace while another grabs a sandwich from Flour. A kid can stick with a classic hot dog from Farm Dogs or make a beeline for The Hop for ice cream. It’s all steps away from one shared table.
And when you’re done, downtown is right outside the door — easy walking, street performers, and a chance to stretch little legs before bedtime.
Rocky's Hot Chicken Shack
Though spicy Nashville-style hot chicken may not sound kid-friendly, Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack is a great place to eat with kids. Not only do their kids' meals (choose from a chicken tender, leg, or a meatless option) come with a choice of side or waffle, but you’ll also find fried pickles and banana pudding on the menu. And if you aren’t sold yet, try their mac & cheese, and you’ll be forever changed.
Rocky’s is a laid-back counter service restaurant with a location in West Asheville and a second in South Asheville. Their South location is close to Jake Rusher Park where you’ll find an excellent mulched playground.
Luella's BBQ
Barbecue is one of the easiest ways to feed a group — and Luella’s does it with the kind of relaxed, no-fuss vibe that works especially well with kids. It’s the place you go when you want everyone to leave full and happy, without needing the meal to be a production.
Luella’s has two locations in Asheville and both are great restaurants for families, especially their North Asheville location because it’s next to Weaver Park. There you’ll find a paved track perfect for bikes, a basketball court and a small playground for your wildlings. Luella’s in South Asheville is located in Biltmore Park Town Square.
Sunny Point Café
Located in West Asheville, the beloved Sunny Point Café serves up breakfast and lunch. Their kids menu comes with crayons and includes everything from French toast to a cheeseburger and even their delectable carrot hotcakes. High chairs and booster seats are available and though it’s table service, the food comes out pretty quickly.
Sunny Point is a busy spot, though, so you should expect a line. Luckily, there is a great garden on the side where kids can explore while waiting for a table. And don’t worry, the food is definitely worth the wait. The whole family will love this Asheville restaurant!
Vinnie’s Italian
Some nights call for pasta. Red sauce. Something everyone at the table recognizes without hesitation.
Vinnie’s leans into “old school” neighborhood Italian, with the kind of menu that makes families exhale: baked ziti, fettuccine alfredo, penne alla vodka, and chicken parmigiana all show up exactly the way you want them to.
And if you’re traveling with kids, they’ve made it easy to order without negotiating — their Bambino section (for kids 10 and under) includes classics like spaghetti & meatballs, chicken tenders, and butter noodles.
They’ve got two Asheville locations — the original on Merrimon Avenue and a South Asheville outpost on Hendersonville Road — and they publish seasonal hours on their site, which is handy when you’re planning around bedtime.
Biscuit Head
There’s something about a biscuit that settles a family fast. It’s familiar. It’s filling. It feels like a good start to the day.
Biscuit Head is one of those Asheville breakfast institutions where the line is part of the ritual. Biscuits come stacked and sturdy, built to hold everything from gravy to fried chicken, and the menu leans playful in the way kids usually love. (If you need a “go-to” order, their menu literally includes a biscuit called The Filthy Animal.)
Which Asheville breweries are welcoming for families with kids?
A quick note in the spirit of being real: breweries are adult spaces first — but Asheville has several that clearly, intentionally accommodate families. These are the ones where “kids are welcome” isn’t an afterthought.
Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company
Asheville Pizza & Brewing is a great destination for the whole family, whether you visit their production brewery and packaging warehouse in South Slope or their North Asheville location complete with a movie theater. Yes, you read that right! They show both new releases and throwbacks. Though it doesn’t have a movie theater, their South Slope location is the perfect place to eat with kids in Asheville. They offer delicious pizza and appetizers, awesome outdoor seating and 15 taps of their in-house brews for the grownups. Don’t miss one of their signature flights if you want to sample a few varieties.
Asheville Pizza & Brewing also has a third, pickup/delivery-focused outpost in South Asheville.
Whistle Hop Brewing Company
If your kids love trains and you love a good brewery, head to Whistle Hop Brewing Company. Located in Fairview, NC, this kid-friendly brewery near Asheville is only a 15-minute drive from downtown. And it makes for the perfect stop after hiking on the kid-favorite Bearwallow Mountain Trail. Explore a caboose or boxcar, play a round of mini golf, go mini bowling or try your hand at Disc Golf Connect 4. You’ll also find tons of outdoor seating, bocce ball, soccer, a culvert slide, shuffleboard and occasional live music. Plan on a daily food truck, excellent beer and a fun time for the entire family!
Highland Brewing
Set on 40 acres in East Asheville, Highland Brewing paved the way for the beer scene we know and love today. But did you know that Asheville’s original craft brewery is also one of Asheville’s most family-friendly breweries?
Your kids will love frolicking on their large meadow and you’ll love sitting back and enjoying one of their local brews. There are shaded tables along the side or you can bring your own seating for the grassy area. If you want to explore a bit more, check out their 1.2 mile hiking trail on campus. Highland has daily rotating food trucks, as well as a large taproom with a great front porch for soaking up the sun. You can also find them downtown at The S&W Market.
Salt Face Mule Brewing Co.
Salt Face Mule is the kind of place that turns a brewery stop into a full afternoon. Tucked just outside Asheville, this spacious brewpub pairs house-brewed beers with Appalachian-inspired comfort food and one very important feature for families: room to play.
Their outdoor space includes mini golf courses and bocce courts, which means kids can stay busy while parents settle in with a pint. The food menu goes well beyond snacks, with burgers, hearty sandwiches, and crowd-pleasing plates that work for a wide range of ages. It’s relaxed, energetic, and intentionally welcoming, making it an easy choice when you want a brewery experience that genuinely works for everyone.
