Asheville’s signature citywide music festival returns in 2026 with a new name and a stacked lineup.

Formerly known as AVLFest, AVL Sounds Fest will bring four days of live music to Asheville from August 6–9, 2026, filling stages across the city with local, regional, national and international artists. The festival bolsters Asheville's reputation as an award-winning destination, including a recent nod from Rolling Stone naming Asheville one of the best music cities in America in its 2025 Travel Awards.

Presented by Worthwhile Sounds and Wicked Weed Brewing, AVL Sounds Fest continues the venue-based format that made AVLFest a standout: one weekend, multiple stages, genre-crossing lineups and a strong spotlight on the artists and venues that shape Asheville’s music scene.

What is AVL Sounds Fest?

AVL Sounds Fest is a multi-day, multi-venue music festival that showcases Asheville’s vibrant live music ecosystem. Instead of gathering at one large festival ground, music fans move between beloved concert halls, clubs, breweries and outdoor stages across the city.

The 2026 festival marks the next evolution of AVLFest, which drew national attention in 2023 and 2024 before pausing in 2025 as Western North Carolina continued to recover from Hurricane Helene.

This year, the festival returns with a refreshed name, a wide-ranging lineup and more than 15 participating venues throughout Asheville.

Big Freedia adds a high-energy dose of bounce music to the weekend, and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe brings funk, soul and a deep-pocket live show. River Whyless, a longtime Asheville favorite, adds a meaningful local anchor to the festival’s national lineup.

Other 2026 lineup highlights include Grace Bowers, Young Gun Silver Fox, Improvement Movement, Sir Woman, Tyler Ramsey & Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket, Toubab Krewe, Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters, Floating Action, Jon Stickley Trio, Electrolust, The Hypos, Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast, Tall Tall Trees, JD Pinkus, Firecracker Jazz Band, Billy Jonas, Lyric and many more.

How do AVL Sounds Fest passes work?

Wristbands are required for entry, and passholders should bring proof of purchase and matching identification when checking in. Venue entry is first come, first served, so arriving early is recommended for high-demand shows.

Tickets are non-refundable, and individual venues may have their own policies around age restrictions, capacity, bags and entry. Check the festival’s official FAQ and venue information before heading out.

Why AVL Sounds Fest matters

Asheville has long been a place where mountain music traditions, touring acts, experimental sounds and independent venues meet. AVL Sounds Fest celebrates that full spectrum, connecting national headliners with the local artists, clubs and creative communities that keep the city’s music culture moving.

The festival also arrives during an important moment for the Asheville area. A portion of proceeds will support the WNC Long Haul – Recovery and Resilience Fund, which provides resources for arts and culture, local businesses and long-term recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene.
