Asheville does not clock out when dinner ends.

After dark, the city shifts into live music rooms, drag shows, dance floors, karaoke nights, dive bars, craft cocktails and kitchens that keep the night going. Use this guide as a starting point for late-night Asheville, then check current hours and event calendars before heading out.

Where are the best late night spots in Asheville?

What are Asheville's late night music and dance venues?

Nightshade
Nightshade

There’s something new going on in Asheville every night, and many local venues and bars have at least one weekly late-night event that you can count on.

The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall: Looking for some midweek gyration? The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall hosts a weekly Tuesday Night Funk Jam from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. This is a great place to get your boogie on and also score some late night eats from the kitchen.

Nightshade: For a different kind of night out, add Nightshade, Asheville’s non-alcoholic nightlife destination, to the downtown venue list. It’s a useful inclusion for visitors looking for craft zero-proof drinks, evening atmosphere, and a social stop that doesn’t center alcohol.

Eulogy: This vibey venue owned by Burial Beer Company is a hotbed for weekly local and underground music shows with plenty of big-name acts and dance parties in between.

Third Room: An artist-owned live music venue and immersive multimedia art gallery in downtown Asheville, where you can dance, listen to DJs or jazz, and wander through ever-changing projection-mapped installations and digital media—making it a vibrant, late-night experience that blends art, music and community.

O. Henry’s: Check out one of Asheville’s premier weekly Drag Shows every Saturday night. Prepare to be impressed by the talent and the bar itself. In 2022, O. Henry's made Esquire magazine's list of "The 32 Best Gay Bars in America."

Banks Ave: Tuck it up buttercup! Banks Ave is a South Slope bar with drag shows, karaoke, pool, skee-ball and late-night hours. Check its weekly schedule for current drag and karaoke times.

The Double Crown: A West Asheville institution, the Double Crown hosts Western Wednesdays live band karaoke and a rousing Gospel show on the last Thursday of each month. It’s a great place for an intimate evening of dancing, drinks and fun, especially if you love a good dive bar.

Imperial: Imperial brings late-night DJs, cocktails and a service-industry Sunday scene downtown. Hours and DJ lineups can shift, so check the venue’s current schedule.

The Odd: This quirky hang has a slew of fun activities, from karaoke to comedy to burlesque. Weekly shenanigans include a Saturday Party Foul Drag Show.

One World Brewing West: This westside brewery hosts lots of live music, plus a regular Latin night every Wednesday (come for dance lessons between 8:30 and 9 p.m.). Their regular Monday Mashups, from 8-11ish p.m. bring some of Asheville's top talents to the stage for a mix of soul, jazz, funk, reggae, and Afrobeat.

Where can I get late-night food and cocktails in Asheville?

Some of Asheville’s best food can be found after hours. We won’t make you wait. Here are some late night food haunts to hit:

Rankin Vault Lounge: Get your 2 a.m. chili cheese hot dog fix at Rankin with its late night menu served from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. There are plenty of other great food options, including a Vietnamese Hoagie made with either pork belly or tempeh. Pair that with the Vault's specialty cucumber martini or a signature cocktail like the Ashevillian Love Affair: a combination of whiskey, blood orange puree and champagne.

Desoto Lounge: The kitchen may close at 10 p.m. Monday though Thursday, but on the weekend, it stays open until midnight, offering homemade starters and entrees that includes nachos, meatloaf sandwich, the popular Desoto Club and a host of vegetarian options.

The Odd: The kitchen rarely closes at The Odd, serving a full range of food alongside its signature cocktails until 2 a.m. Try one of the signature burgers or cheesesteaks. There are vegan eats as well.

The One Stop: Pair some great music with freshly baked pizzas or wings (veggie/vegan options available for both). The kitchen serves food from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Golden Pineapple: Golden Pineapple is a West Asheville cocktail bar with a thoughtful wine, beer, spirits and house cocktail program. Check current food service hours before making it your late-night dinner plan.

Village Pub: A staple in Biltmore Village, the Village Pub kitchen stays open until 9:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays (9 p.m. otherwise), offering affordably priced classic bar fare. Choose from a menu of burgers and sandwiches, wings, nachos and more, plus an extensive beer list. It's also a great spot to catch a game.

The Times Bar: This classy joint stays open to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and claims (with the ability to back it up) to have the best espresso martini in town. The Times Bar also offers some delectable coffee options that are both classic and boozy.

Universal Joint: A great place in West Asheville for a late night burger and brew. The UJ stays open until 11 p.m. every night and midnight on Friday and Saturday.

What are Asheville’s best late-night dive bars and local bars?

The Wheelhouse
The Wheelhouse

Everyone knows about our tremendous craft beer scene, but there are some great dive bars that can slip under the radar. Here’s some places to check out if you’re looking to try something a little more local.

Like to shoot pool or throw darts? Check out these other late-night spots: Charlotte Street Pub, The Social, Westville Pub, Frazier’s Tavern, The Bier Garden, Barley’s Taproom or Olde London Road.

The Wheelhouse brings coffee, cocktails, country and blues to the South Slope. By day, it’s a laid-back coffee shop; by night, it leans into its watering-hole side with drinks, live music and a dive-bar feel.

Want to mix it up with the locals? Try Tiger Mountain, Desoto Lounge, Fleetwood’s, Double Crown or the Yacht Club. Go to the Burger Bar for a true dive bar experience, but don’t expect any burgers – it’s a drinks only establishment.
