At 123 Biltmore Avenue, you will find “Bungy’s Stars," the work of artist Gabriel Shaffer. Drawing on his deep folk art roots and fond memories of his grandmother’s quilting practice, Gabriel was inspired to create a series of barn quilt paintings. Putting a fresh spin on the traditional barn quilt motif, Gabriel took his color inspirations from a Daft Punk album - the French electronic music duo. Placed in an urban environment, this barn quilt painting breathes new life into the traditionally rural public art form.
Gabriel Shaffer is a visual artist, writer, and owner/curator of Mortal Machine gallery in New Orleans. He has emerged as one of the country's premiere salon style curators while also directing booths at Scope Miami Basel and the LA Art Show. In 2018, he became a contributing writer for the art and culture magazine, Juxtapoz, which celebrates urban alternative and underground contemporary art.
