The North Carolina Arboretum's annual Winter Lights, now in its 13th year, features more than one million bright, energy-efficient LED lights throughout the nationally known gardens. The lights illuminate the natural beauty and landscapes of the Arboretum during the winter season.
In addition to the lights, enjoy live music performances, hot cocoa and s'mores, story times, and fire pits.
What Should You Know Before Visiting Winter Lights at the North Carolina Arboretum in 2026?
November 13, 2026 – January 3, 2027 | 6–10 p.m. nightly (final hours confirmed when tickets go on sale)
Asheville's brightest holiday tradition returns for its 13th year, illuminating the Arboretum's 434 acres with more than one million lights along a one-mile walk through the gardens.
- Returning favorites include the 50-foot animated Tree of Light and the illuminated Quilt Garden, synchronized to holiday music, plus new nature-themed displays throughout the gardens this season.
- Sip, shop, and stay awhile with hot cocoa and s'mores from the Cocoa Shacks, seasonal dishes from Bent Creek Bistro, live music, and holiday shopping in the Connections Gallery Gift Shop.
- Entry times in recent seasons have run 6, 7, and 8 p.m., with guests welcome to stay until closing at 10 p.m.; the exact 2026 schedule will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date.
- Tickets go on sale October 1, 2026, at noon, sold per vehicle with pricing based on date and vehicle size (last season started at $45 per vehicle; 2026 pricing has not yet been released). Arboretum members have historically received a discount. Many nights sell out, so advance purchase is strongly encouraged.

- Rain or shine: this is the Arboretum's largest annual fundraiser, and proceeds support mission-driven programming.
