It's called the brightest holiday tradition in Asheville! The North Carolina Arboretum’s annual Winter Lights, which is in its 12th year, features one million bright, energy-efficient LED lights throughout the nationally-known gardens. The lights illuminate the natural beauty and landscapes of the arboretum during the winter season.

In addition to the lights, enjoy live music performances, hot cocoa, story times, fire pits, and s’mores.

November 15, 2025 – January 4, 2026 | 6–10 p.m. nightly

Asheville’s brightest holiday tradition returns with a brand-new show, illuminating the Arboretum’s 434 acres with more than one million lights, creative new displays, and beloved favorites.

  • All-new experiences alongside returning favorites like the 50-foot animated Tree of Light, the “Polar Express”-themed Rocky Cove Railroad, and the illuminated Quilt Garden synchronized to holiday music.
  • New this year: Trolls by Danish recycling artist Thomas Dambo make their U.S. debut. Six larger-than-life sculptures from Trolls: A Field Study will “experience” Winter Lights with guests—adding a playful spark of storytelling and wonder to the gardens.
  • Sip, shop, and stay awhile with hot cocoa and treats from the Cocoa Shacks and Bent Creek Bistro, live music, and holiday shopping in the expanded Connections Gallery Gift Shop.
  • Entry times: 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m. Guests may stay until closing at 10 p.m.
  • Tickets: Sold per vehicle with pricing based on date and size; Arboretum members receive $5 off. Many nights sell out, so advance purchase is strongly encouraged.
  • New ticket experiences: Winter Lights Trolley on select evenings (presented by Biltmore Park Town Square and Grey Line Trolley Tours) that transports guests from Biltmore Park Town Square directly to Winter Lights, cocoa packages, and discounted re-entry passes to explore all 12 of Dambo’s trolls by day.
  • Share the Wonder: Give the gift of Winter Lights to families in need or purchase gift tickets for loved ones.
  • Rain or shine: This is the Arboretum’s largest annual fundraiser; proceeds support mission-driven programming.
