Asheville Takes Center Stage on 'Good Morning America' for Special Live Broadcast

Six months after the hardships faced during Hurricane Helene, Asheville and Western North Carolina have emerged stronger than ever. In recognition of the city’s resilience and ongoing recovery, “Good Morning America” broadcasted its live show from Highland Brewing on Thursday, March 27, marking a powerful milestone in the region’s recovery.

Co-anchor Robin Roberts, chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee, and WABC-TV’s Sam Champion reported live from Asheville. The broadcast highlighted the remarkable ways Asheville has rallied together over the past six months. From families navigating aid delays to small businesses working tirelessly to recover, “GMA” showcased the strength of the community. The program spotlighted hometown heroes leading the charge in the growth and restoration of Asheville’s cultural and business districts.

In addition to in-depth reporting, “Asheville Rising” featured live donations, giveaways, and a special performance by country music star and North Carolina native Chase Rice. GMA’s collective donations for the area topped $2.7 million and included building materials, food, and a new car. 

With the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop, the live broadcast was a testament to Asheville’s unwavering resilience, offering viewers across the country a glimpse into the heart of a community determined to rebuild stronger than ever.
