Asheville Black Cultural Heritage Trail Project
The Asheville Black Cultural Heritage Trail (BCHT) is a self-guided walking tour that winds through the city's Downtown, Southside, and River Area neighborhoods. It features a series of 20 illustrated panels that share the stories, struggles, and achievements of Asheville's Black community throughout history.
2018 TPDF Investment: $500,000
The BCTDA committed to provide dedicated staff and funding for the development of the Asheville Black Cultural Heritage Trail. Unveiled in 2023, the BCHT showcases the agency, achievements, and contributions of Asheville’s Black community. Phase II is currently underway and seeks to further enrich the trail with public art, such as murals or sculptures, in spaces that are free and open to the public.
