LGBTQ+ Resource Guide for Asheville

In Asheville, creativity, inclusivity and respect are deeply rooted in our city's core, and we work hard to make this a welcoming place for all.

Below, find a list of resources and organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community in Asheville. As LBGTQ+ visitors travel across our city, these are safe spaces and organizations that can answer questions, help with advocacy or assist with health-related issues. 

RESOURCES AND ASSISTANCE

Blue Ridge Pride

Blue Ridge Pride seeks to support rural LGBTQ+ communities in partnership with the many wonderful people and organizations who are only too eager to help. Its goal is to serve as a valued partner, collaborating with WNC’s many community service organizations and companies that welcome and serve Buncombe County and surrounding communities. BRP also hosts an annual pride festival.

Youth OUTRight WNC

The mission of Youth OUTRight is to create a world in which all Queer and Trans youth are supported to realize their power and autonomy through self-determination. It helps youth resist oppression by building community, healing and growth with programs for youth ages 11-24 and advocacy for policies that protect Queer and Trans youth. 

Tranzmission

Founded in April 2, 2001, Tranzmission is an education, advocacy and support group for non binary and transgender people in Western North Carolina. Tranzmission offers help when it comes to things like legally changing your name and gender as well as several support groups that includes youth and families. 

PFLAG Asheville

PFLAG Asheville, founded in 2018, is a chapter of PFLAG National. PFLAG's mission is to support families, allies and people who are LGBTQ+, education about the unique issues and challenges facing people who are LGBTQ+ and advocacy in Asheville to change attitudes and create policies and laws that achieve full equality for people who are LGBTQ+.

Western North Carolina AIDS Project

WNCAP provides equitable access to care and reduces harm from HIV, Hepatitis C and drug use. It also offers innovative age appropriate education programs and HIV/AIDS education materials for schools, worksites and community groups.

Western North Carolina Community Health Services 

WNCCHS provides comprehensive, high-quality whole person health care to patients regardless of ability to pay. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), it provides health care to all community members, including low income, indigent and uninsured patients who may not otherwise be able to afford health care via traditional sources. WNCCHS has the resources and ability to cater to the needs of transgender and nonbinary individuals in an environment that is welcoming and supportive.

Tzedek Social Justice

The Tzedek Social Justice Fund has been supporting the social justice work of grassroots organizations, collectives and cooperatives, nonprofits, and local leaders since in Asheville since the late 1980s. They fund work that is centered on LGBTQ justice, racial justice and dismantling antisemitism.
