Backyard Plants: A Special Guided Tour at Vance Birthplace

Get to know the plants in our backyard and explore the landscape of Vance Birthplace on this guided outdoor tour! Walk the grounds with our staff on Saturday, August 22 as we highlight plants that shaped daily life in Western North Carolina.

During this program, you’ll learn how people in the 1800s used native and naturalized plants for food, work, home care, and remedies. Join us to connect with the plants that have characterized our landscape for hundreds of years!
