Built in the 1840s, the Smith-McDowell House was the home of one of North Carolina's first entrepreneurs, a Confederate major, and friends of the Vanderbilts. Today, the museum is dedicated to both the history of the home, as well as the region. Explore these 'Stories of the Mountains' from the 23 western counties of North Carolina.
