
Exhibiting over 60 species of animals native to Southern Appalachia. Exhibits include: Appalachian Station - which highlights the diversity of the Smoky Mountains; Appalachian Predators – Life on the Edge which features red and gray wolves, bobcats, cougars and coyotes; The North Carolina Farm - featuring domestic animals commonly found on Appalachian Farms; and our newest exhibit, Prehistoric Appalachia - featuring a pair of red pandas. The Center welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually. The Center is one of only three zoos in North Carolina to be accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Groups of 10 or more receive 50-cent discount on adult admissions.
The TreeTops Classroom (616 square feet with 60 person occupancy) and Forest Floor Classroom (600 square feet with 55 person occupancy) are both located in the Education Center at the WNC Nature Center. Adjacent restrooms and ADA compliant. Event rental includes tables, chairs, and admission to the wildlife park. Currently available for rental 7 days a week from 10 am to 5 pm.
