From Slave to Master Mason: James Vester Miller Historic Walking Trail is a self guided walking tour in the heart of downtown Asheville featuring nine buildings constructed by James Vester Miller - an African American who built many of Asheville’s most remarkable historic buildings during its Golden Age of the late 19th century and early 20th century. The trail has an easy to follow map of some of the most remarkable historic buildings and churches he constructed. His grand daughter, Andrea Clark, created the trail to honor his work and highlight the important role that African Americans played in changing the landscape of Asheville.
