Catch the Spirit of Appalachia is a regional organization serving the western NC counties including Buncombe County. Our mission is "Planting Seeds of heritage through the arts." Currently we are working with the Folk Heritage Committee and the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area to create a historical mural celebrating Shindig on the Green to be placed on Packs Tavern in Pack Square. Our youth programs include scholarships to graduating high school seniors for Appalachian studies, creative writing and art workshops and a Junior Appalachian Musician's program and talent contest. We reach the public with a radio show called "Stories of Mountain Folk," publish regional author's books and have a storytelling and spontaneous art performance called "Heritage Alive."
