ArtPlay is a new mixed media studio/gallery in the River Arts District offering: local art works in the gallery, a small, unique selection of art supplies and immersive arts experiences for both locals and visitors. Everything we do at ArtPlay brings together the intersection of artists, art-making and community. People (adults) often feel a long distance between themselves and the art that they admire. Although they are curious about how artists do what they do, most adults feel as though they are not creative. ArtPlay is about re-connecting people with the inner drive to play and to create that we were all born with. The imagination we are endowed with as humans. The ability AND the need that we have, to tell our stories in languages that are beyond (or "before") words. Art allows us to say things that cannot be said with words alone. When we do that together in community, it is powerful.
We offer "Playdates" (classes) with local artists on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, Open Studio & Family Open Studio on Saturdays, Live Art Demos by local artists (events), Art Talks (from time to time w/ local artists) and we also have Art Therapists who offer women's groups and healing arts classes. We want people to walk in and feel that art-making is accessible. And we want them to feel that they are in a space of non-judgement. The rest of the world is full of places that can feel exclusive and/ or judgmental. ArtPlay is welcoming. Come Play!!
