THE EXPERIENCE: Founders and Owners, Steven Anan (head brewer) & Brad Casanova (operations & quality) opened Archetype with a lot of relevant experience in process control, quality, and business - which all together creates an experience for their customers. The brewhouse was designed with quality and consistency in mind. The taproom was designed to stimulate the visual experience of art and craft - with a large mural adorning one wall inclusive of hidden images significant to West Asheville. Taps behind the bar with clear vessels above allow their customers to view ones beer before it pours into their glass. Patrons can choose their beer not just based on the style, associated archetype, abv, or description - but also by its color, haziness and overall presentation. Archetype also created as little as possible separation between the taproom and the production area - so as their guests enjoy the aromas & taste of what they're drinking, they can set their gaze on the very place it was produced; smelling the sweetness of the air and whatever is brewing that day. Patrons can't quite put their finger on why they love their experience at Archetype Brewing - but they leave knowing they want to come back.
THE BEERS: Beers will be named after the archetype their character and personality embody. Just as Steven & Brad believe there's a beer out there for everyone, there will be certain beers that each customer connects with. Archetype invites their customers to take the Archetype test to see which is theirs. The brewteam focuses on clean, approachable, American and Belgian inspired session ales.
THE FEELS: Patrons will enjoy the choice of varying seating options both inside and out - including a comfortable couch area, two patios, Adirondacks, and a soon-to-come 21+ roof top deck. The Archetype team set out to answer the desires of their neighbors - the awesome folks living, biking, and walking in East West Asheville. And, appreciating that awesome people visit our unique city from all over the world, the entire team share their excitement and information with our newcomers - creating one more reason to return, or, dare we say it, move here. To that end Archetype has and/or will have live music, quiz nights, community focused sponsor nights, a children's afternoon story time twice a month.
FAMILIES: Archetype also provides an experience for parents - in addition to storytime (which is the first and third Wednesday of every month at 4pm,) children really enjoy their time at Archetype - which means so do the parents. The kiddos can look forward to an indoor play area with a small table, a big rug, and a bookshelf full of toys, books and puzzles. There's also a wood-chip area with construction trucks! Pizza mind has a great kids menu, but parents can feel perfectly comfortable bringing whatever food they like in, including for the littles.
FOOD: The taproom shares a courtyard with Pizza Mind, Owl Bakery and the soon to open Gan Shan West. Archetype sells a few snacks, and welcomes all outside food, and they encourage you to order in from their delicious courtyard neighbors.
Archetype Brewing opened in June 2017. Originally opening with guest taps, they have slowly released their own beer in the taproom. At the end of July, eight of Archetypes beers are on tap and receiving great reviews - making note of the quality, cleanliness, sessionability, and how refreshingly easy they are to drink.
