The Alex Krug Combo is a dream-rock/americana band rolling out of Asheville, NC. The six piece combo is engrossed in landscape, atmosphere and melodic ecstasy. Alex’s strange and wonderful voice at times fastens so closely to Gramig’s harmony, while the other-worldly lap steel or violin, gritty watery electric guitar, and upright bass are all held together by Bill Berg’s expansive groove. This band will not exit a stage without leaving the audience in some sort of terribly wonderful stupor. Recently the band has played at LEAF festival, the Orange Peel and Grey Eagle as well as offered support for such acts as The Hip Abduction, Horse Feathers, Donna the Buffalo and Erin McKeown. The new, four-track EP called Gentle Spotted Giants is Alex Krug’s second album and the band’s first studio EP as a Combo, recorded at Echo Mountain Recording Studios in downtown Asheville, NC The EP contains an extended cut of “Whale Shark” and is produced by Michael Selverne and Welcome to Mars. Album guests include drummer Bill Berg (Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks”) and violinist Lyndsay Pruett (Jon Stickley etc). This talented band opens up the ceiling of instrumentation, rhythm, vocal ecstasy and lyricism in a way that elevates the listener.
