Western North Carolina Disc Golf Association

  • Western North Carolina Disc Golf Association is an all volunteer organization that has been around for 25 years promoting disc golf! We were founded by James Nichols in 2000 alongside the creation of Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course in Asheville NC. Since then, we have received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2008 in huge part due to Ryan Pickens.

We have over 250 annual members, mostly in the Asheville/Buncombe area but also expanding throughout WNC into Henderson, Haywood, Transylvania, Madison county and beyond. We help maintain courses and promote future disc golf expansion as well as host events throughout the year such as Luv Dubs (Valentine's Day mixed doubles event), Youth Grant Fundraiser event, and PDGA sanctioned events.

We welcome you to visit the following local courses:

    • Richmond Hill (City of Asheville) - 18 hole course with concrete tee pads and dual basket positions. Very wooded and lots of elevation. Challenging for all skill levels.
    • Highland Brewing (Private - Free) - 18 hole course with multiple concrete tee pads and multiple baskets on most holes. A great vibe around the brewery and a variety of layouts for all skill levels.
    • Sand Hill (Buncombe County) - 18 hole course playing around Buncombe County Sports Complex. A more beginner friendly course that still challenges all shot varieties. This park can be very busy on weekends and week nights with other sport practices and tournaments.
    • Lake Julian (Buncombe County) - 18 hole course playing around the backside of Lake Julian. This is a longer course with both woods and open holes and a variety of pin positions. This course is not for the faint at heart as the water comes into play on a few holes.
    • Asheville Muni (City of Asheville - Pay to Play) - This long-term temporary course utilizes the Front 9 of the Asheville Municipal (ball) Golf Course while it is under repair after Hurricane Helene. Expected to be around for a year or two, this course is unique to the Asheville area with longer, open fairways with many Out of Bounds or Hazard areas. With just one basket but multiple tee pads, the course still offers plenty of variety for various players.

There are other local course that may peak your interest: Brookstone (Private, Free, 18 holes), Aston Park (City of Asheville, 6 hole pitch and putt), Black Mountain Veterans Park (Town of Black Mountain, currently only 9 holes after receiving substantial damage from Hurricane Helene), and Avery's Spring (Private home course).

On your way in or out of town, consider a stop at Mars Hill University course or Jackson Park in Hendersonville. Both courses are 18 holes and while Jackson Park offers multiple layouts, Mars Hill has just one long layout but both courses are well loved by locals.

During your stay in Asheville, consider taking a day trip to one of these destination courses: Fire Mountain in Cherokee NC, Harmon Hills in Kingsport TN, or North Cove in Marion NC.

Feel free to check out our website to see a map of all these courses.

We are dedicated to fostering, promoting, and improving the sport and community of disc golf in the Western North Carolina area.
