This womens-only backpacking trip featured the Art Loeb Trail and the beautiful Shining Rock Wilderness. With plenty of pauses for education and instruction, this is a great trip for beginners who want to gain confidence and knowledge as a backpacker.
Your guide will meet you in the parking lot behind the Downtown Asheville Visitor's Bureau off of Montford Ave (36 Monford Ave., Asheville, NC 28801) at 9:00AM. You will be able to leave your car here for the duration of the trip. We will then take you to our downtown retail location in order to get outfitted for the trip (all rental gear included in the price of the trip). Then, we will take a scenic drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway to the trailhead to begin our hike.
You will hike approximately five miles over Black Balsam Knob and Tennent Mountain to camp near Shining Rock. The next day you will hike back the way you came. There is an option to take an easier route back, depending on how the group is feeling. The total trip distance will be around 10 miles.
Food, individual gear (backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent), and community gear (cookset, water filter, etc) are included. All of our guides are wilderness medicine and CPR certified.
