Trio Jazz from Up Jumped Three
Wednesday, June 28- 7:30 p.m.- Wednesday Jazz Series: Up Jumped Three. Jazz. $10 advance/$12 door
While Wednesday Jazz series founder Bill Bares is on hiatus a full lineup of artists is keeping the music flowing at the White Horse Black Mountain. On Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Up Jumped Three will leap into the breach, a trio made made up of double bassist Bryan White, Tim Winters on guitar, and saxophonist Frank Southecorvo.
Up Jumped Three reunites two bandmates from a prior project. Bryan and Frank had previously played in the trio Done for the Evening, exploring a chordless sax-bass-drums lineup. Revisiting the format a few years ago, Southecorvo urged the addition of Tim Winter, whose rich guitar tone and inventiveness he admired. Chords were back, drums were out, and a distinctive spare yet intensely interactive chamber jazz sound was forged.
All the members of Up Jumped Three are accomplished players and composers in multiple genres, so the pooling of their individual strengths fills a sonic reservoir that’s both broad and deep. The resulting collaboration contains shades of West Coast “cool” jazz, free jazz, and even blues and R&B. The band recorded its first album, “Eleven Dialogues”, in 2016 and has been in the studio laying down tracks for a second CD due for release later this year.
