Mountain Art Theatre, in association with The Magnetic Theatre, Presents the Asheville Premiere of Aaron Posner’s Stupid F***ing Bird, A Raucous, Contemporary Reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s The SeagullPress contact: Steven Samuels / email@example.com / 828.279.4155FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Asheville, NC, March 21, 2017—Asheville audiences are in for a wild ride, beginning April 13, when Mountain Art Theatre and The Magnetic Theatre combine forces to present the award-winning Stupid F***ing Bird by Aaron Posner. Directed by Henry Williamson III and starring seven of Asheville’s finest actors, this furiously paced, often hilarious, irreverent but moving and song-filled play about art and love will delight devotees of and newcomers to one of the world stage’s most enduring masterpieces, The Seagull. “After reading the script and discovering how unpredictably hysterical and deliciously theatrical this adaptation is, we knew immediately we would stage it when the right opportunity presented itself,” says Dwight Chiles, co-artistic director, with Williamson, of Mountain Art Theatre. Williamson brought the idea to Magnetic artistic director Steven Samuels, whom he had directed in last year’s Magnetic production of Death of a Salesman. “The script knocked me out,” Samuels says. “When I realized how directly it speaks to The Magnetic’s mission of original works and understood how much of the cast would consist of Magnetic regulars, I proposed the co-production.” Those actors include Samuels himself and Magnetic star Tracey Johnston-Crum, as well as Allen T. Law and Samantha LeBrocq, who perform frequently with both companies, as well as Mountain Art stalwarts Chiles, Josephine Thomas, and David Anthony Yeates. “It’s one of the most inventive plays I’ve come across,” Williamson says, “effectively teetering back and forth between that fine line of comedy and tragedy. Posner’s writing is riotously funny and yet deeply moving and poignant all at once. I think people are going to have an utterly unique, surprising, exciting, and refreshing night at the theatre!”Mountain Art Theatre in association with The Magnetic Theatre presents Aaron Posner’s Stupid F***ing Bird.
