The Swannanoa Gathering music camps at Warren Wilson College attract world class musicians as instructors every summer, and the community reaps the benefit when they concertize during their visit to the Valley. On Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m. the White Horse Black Mountain welcomes acoustic string wizard Robin Bullock for a special performance during the lull between teaching gigs at the Gathering’s Celtic Week and Guitar Week.
Multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, cittern) Robin Bullock has been called a a “Celtic guitar god”. He’s not only an award-winning finger style guitar soloist, but also an in-demand accompanist and teacher. He grew up in the Washington, D.C. area, a hotbed for both bluegrass and Irish music, and his early influences shaped a musical persona that successfully blends Celtic and American traditions.
Robin’s impeccable tone, virtuosic technique and tasteful arrangements have put him on the road with folk legends like Janis Ian and Tom Paxton. Bullock has played and recorded with a Who’s Who of acoustic artists as well a producing a catalog of acclaimed CDs under his own banner, including a recent ambitious release of Bach’s Suites for Cello arranged for mandolin.
After living for many years in France, Robin relocated to Black Mountain in 2013, his longtime “home-away-from-home”, but he maintains a busy traveling and performing schedule that makes local appearances a special treat.
