Formed along the reaches of the Great Dismal Swamp, Gravitation’s sound is melodic vocals, intricate and hard-hitting guitar riffs and throbbing tempo variations with a heavy dose of today’s rock/metal grind. With a voice likened to a fallen angel, lead-singer Meghan Powell was featured in several local bands in northeastern NC in her early teens. During her high-school years she immersed herself in the local theatre and music scenes and continued her performance training at East Carolina University. With a load of natural talent, guitarist Chris Herrin began playing on a public stage when he was only fifteen years old. He was the lead guitarist for a number of local cover bands before finding his hard rock niche with Meghan and Karl. Drummer Karl Gupton, originally from Claremont, Virginia, played the Tidewater/RVA music scene for many years in bands like Last Call and J.C. Possum. Influenced by a gamut of musical genres, Gravitation formed in 2010 when the members met while working on another musical project. By a combination of hard work and extreme luck, Gravitation met legendary rock guitarist and producer John LeCompt in October 2015. In a collaborative effort with LeCompt on bass guitar, Gravitation recorded Accelerate, their first EP at Red Room Studios in April 2016. They are hitting the road November 2017 to promote the release of their debut full length album.
Accelerate EP available now anywhere digital music is sold or streamed.
Falling Through April
Even though they are originally from disparate parts of the country, Charlotte, NC based Alt Rockers Falling Through April have come together to form a cohesive unit in a city that is rich in music history and has a thriving independent rock scene. Their energy is abundant in their live shows and in the music from their new single “Desperate Measures”, which was released on September 1st through Page 2 Music.
The band's founders (Jim Siani, Dave Piontek, Taylor Foster, Dan Candia) have weathered the full gamut of hurdles as a startup since forming in 2011, ranging from exploding transmissions and ghosting vocalists to nearby celebratory gun fire landing Taylor in the hospital. When charismatic front woman Mikaela Salazar stepped into their lives in 2016, the road blocks stopped and everyone found something to be excited about.
The 4 founders came together after playing in different bands that were a part of the Charlotte indie rock scene. The band members came to music naturally, as they all had musicians in their family: Dan came from a long line of international musicians, and his dad always played guitar when he was growing up. Dave started in music early, and in his early teens he became enamored of the Electric Bass and that became his instrument of choice. Jim knew by the age of 13 that he wanted to be a professional musician, inspired by acts like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, and his favorite band Weezer. Taylor grew up watching his Dad play drums, so you could say they are in his family DNA. Mikaela grew up in a house that was never silent, and the desire to be involved in music was second nature. She was inspired to become a singer by strong female musical role models like Alanis Morissette and Gwen Stefani.
The band has 2 previous independent releases: The "Take Flight" album in 2012; and the "Risk and Reward" Ep in 2015.
In early 2017 FTA packed up and drove to Nashville, TN for a several month's long recording binge with producer and friend Jon King (Augustana, Darling Parade). The result is their new album "Zodiac", a powerful alt-rock collection that melds influences ranging from Incubus to Halsey. "Zodiac" is scheduled to be released on January 5th, 2018.
The band has amassed a significant touring resume, having opened for The Pretty Reckless, Pop Evil, Adelitas Way, Breaking Benjamin and more. They have also performed at major festivals including the Vans Warped Tour, SXSW, Florida Music Festival, Sonorous Music Festival, Dewey Beach Music Conference and Celebrate Fairfax. Their touring has garnered them endorsements from PRS and Reverend Guitars, among others.
Falling Through April's goal is to have their music reach as many people as possible around the world and for their music to inspire and encourage listeners. Becoming a household name in the modern rock community drives them forward, and “Desperate Measures” promises to set them on their way.
Technical ability and raw emotion collide in a masterful blend of ass shaking groove. Max Miller, guitarist and songwriter, comes from math metal roots but has surprising finesse and a phenomenal grasp of melodic construction. Max's skillful yet tasteful guitar tapping is quickly becoming a signature Galena trademark.
A yin to his yang, David Singleton crushes his lead guitar role, peppering each tune with his own brand of creativity and style, adding a distinctive element of mystery and ambiance to Galena's overall feel.
To make it even tastier, bass and drums unite to ground Galena's massive sound thanks to Joel Clark and Casey Waters' soul crushing rhythm section.
The melty topping on this kaleidoscope sundae is Melissa Pasciolla, singer and co-writer for Galena. Her soulful powerhouse vocals soar over intricate rhythms and melodies bringing a tangible element to a genre typically reserved for the most musically literate.
Asheville-based indie rock band, Shadow Show, formed in a sweaty basement during February 2015. Having evolved from a two-piece guitar duo, Shadow Show has since secured a slightly-less-sweaty studio space and crafted a sound that leaves room for shoe gazing and head banging alike, often within the same song. They released their debut EP, Vendel, in September 2015, followed closely by a live EP, Live at Satellite Studios, in December. The lads of Shadow Show are taking to Asheville and surrounding cities to promote this effort and spread their music through the local rock/indie scenes, while honing in on material for their first full length album. Shadow Show is proud to play songs that are authentic and diverse, having gleaned their sound from multiple genres; they are the only area band known to sport Grateful Dead and Brand New shirts on the same stage. With catchy choruses and a song-writing process focused on melodic energy and dynamics, Shadow Show serves up a musical buffet, prone to leaving listeners hungry for more.
