The FREE Community Workshops on Saturday, June 29th, are offered as part of the ASHEVILLE PERCUSSION FESTIVAL and led by local percussion instructors. These FREE workshops are welcoming to drummers of all levels, including those who have never drummed before. This aspect of the festival makes for a great family outing or an opportunity for the curious to explore the world of drumming and meet instructors who can help them cultivate their musical curiosity. During the week of the festival, June 24 - July 1st, there are also half-day, full-day, and multi-day immersion workshops offered by world-class percussion masters for those who are serious about studying percussion. This year, classes are offered in frame drum, doumbek, handpan, djembe, samba ensemble, marimba, hybrid drum-kit, and more. There are separate workshops for introductory playing and for developing intermediate and advanced techniques, with an emphasis on honing skills and learning pieces on those specific instruments. Pre-registration and fees are required for the immersion workshops. Featured instructors this year include four-time Grammy-Award winner, Glen Velez, as well as Naghmeh Farahmand, River Guerguerian, Adam Maalouf, Sue Ford, Adama Dembele, Yowana Sari Gamelan Ensemble, Zabumba Samba Ensemble, and others. The ASHEVILLE PERCUSSION FESTIVAL also includes concerts and demos for those who enjoy listening more than playing. Please see our website for further details, such as teacher bios, workshop descriptions, schedule of events, and registration.
