Frederick Law Olmsted was known as the father of American landscape architecture when George Vanderbilt approached him to create a design for his North Carolina land. Under Olmsted’s guidance, Biltmore became a showplace in landscape design, as well as the birthplace of American forestry. Biltmore will recognize Olmsted’s 200th birthday with the dedication of a new Olmsted Walking Trail in his honor.
