July 18th - The Folkmoot Gala is the kickoff celebration of the summer festival and is our annual fundraiser supported by the Friends of Folkmoot, sponsors and their guests. The Gala is held outdoors under the big tent in the field adjacent to the Friendship Center and in the Queen Auditorium. Friends will enjoy specialty foods and beverages while cultural performers take the stage for their first appearance at the festival.

Named by USA Today as one of the Top Twenty Festivals in North Carolina, Folkmoot is a ten-day event, held across the mountains of Western North Carolina in Waynesville, Clyde, Lake Junaluska, Maggie Valley, Canton, Cherokee, Franklin, Hickory, Asheville, and Hendersonville.
2019 Folkmoot Festival dates are July 19 - 28 and feature cultural ambassadors/dance performing groups from Ghana, Italy, Czech Republic, Mexico, Venezuela and Northern Cyprus, Thailand and local Appalachian and Cherokee dancers and musicians. With dozens of performances held during two weeks by hundreds of world dancers and musicians from nine countries, Folkmoot brings the world's diverse cultures together. Sharing traditions and learning about people around the world has never been more exciting and entertaining! Enjoy performances, workshops, the Parade of Nations, and meet the performers.
