A great way to kick off the summer as a family! This trip is designed for families of all kinds, on one of our favorite sections of the Appalachian Trail. Because of the length of this trip, it is ideal for older kids, or families with previous hiking or backpacking experience. Total of 20 miles of backpacking over 3 days.
You will meet your guide at 9am at our bunkhouse in Hot Springs, the "Appalachian Trail-er" (200 Lance Ave, Hot Springs, NC 28743). You are welcome to book accommodation here for the night before your trip by giving us a call (828-713-5451).
You will park your vehicle in Hot Springs and then take a shuttle around 11am to Max Patch, where you will start your hike. After 3 days of hiking, you will make it all the way into Hot Springs where you parked your car! Your hike generally finishes around lunchtime on the last day.
Monday: You will start on Max Patch (4629') and descend to Lemon Gap (3550') to camp for the night, approximately 6 miles
Tuesday: Starting from Lemon Gap, climb Walnut Mountain (4293') and Bluff Mountain (4686') and over rolling terrain to camp at Deer Park Mountain shelter (2339'), approximately 11 miles
Wednesday: From the shelter at Deer Park Mountain, you will hike down into Hot Springs (1326'), approximately 3 miles
Trip price includes food, individual gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack, tent), and group gear (cookset, water filter, etc).
