UNC Asheville will feature works by Asheville painter Jamie Rowe-Rischitelli in a new exhibition June 4-July 31 in the Blowers Gallery in Ramsey Library. A reception with the artist will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 in the gallery. The exhibit and reception are both free and open to everyone.Rowe-Rischitelli says her art is “heavily influenced by elements in nature and the study of ikebana, specifically line, space, mass and rhythm.” In this exhibition, she is pairing her paintings – some abstract, and some from her bird series – with ikebana flower arrangements. Ikebana is a Japanese art form dating back to the seventh century. The medium used is living materials – branches, leaves and flowers.Rowe-Rischitelli has a BFA in painting from West Virginia University and has lived in Asheville since 2004.
Blowers Gallery will be open during regular library hours: 1-9 p.m. on Sunday; 7:45 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; and 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fridays during June and July. Ramsey Library will be closed on July 4, and closed on Saturdays during June and July. For more information, visit library.unca.edu.
