The BB Charity Gran Fondo is a bike ride located in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Cyclists will ride a challenging 83, 62 or 3o mile course. Participants will be able to enjoy the colorful fall foliage and have a chance to experience the hospitality and charm of Black Mountain and Asheville. Participants will also be able to ride and converse with past, present, and future cycling celebrities, who will join the ride as guides and guests. ALL Proceeds will go towards the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.

WHAT IS A GRAN FONDO?

A gran fondo is a single day, organized cycling event. Gran fondos are not races, although there are often timed segments within the ride.

WHO ARE JAMIE AND BRENT BOOKWALTER?

Brent Bookwalter has raced with the BMC Racing Team for eight seasons. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native is a 9 time collegiate national champion and past U23 national champion. In 2011 he was part of the Tour de France winning team, helping Cadel Evans ride to his first title. In 2014 hewas part of the overall and team classification victory at the USA Pro Challenge, finished his second career Giro d’Italia while finishing fifth on the penultimate stage, and helped Cadel Evans win Giro del Trentino while being part of winning team time trial squad.  He is also one of a few Americans who have finished all three grand tours. Brent and his wife Jamie reside in Asheville, NC when stateside and Girona, Spain during much of the race season. His website is brentbookwalter.com

Jamie Dinkins Bookwalter is from Powell, Tennessee, and began her athletic career as a collegiate DI runner. When overuse injuries forced her to cross train on a bike, she fell in love with the sport of cycling and never looked back. While competing as a professional on the mountain bike, Jamie finished the 2008 season ranked as the 7th American woman in UCI points. She earned a trip to the 2008 MTB World Championships where she scored a USA best top 20 in the U23 race. After a brief racing hiatus to complete her graduate degree in forest entomology, Jamie raced two seasons with Colavita Professional Cycling team, earing numerous top tens at national and international time trials. She also raced in Europe with the US national team on several occasions, earning at top 5 at a stage in the Giro Toscona. Jamie works as a bike guide and forest insect author-for-hire, and enjoys any adventure which takes her off the beaten path.
