A Soldier's Story is a "36x36" oil on panel I painted for Bandaids and Bullets, a Veteran-centric art therapy organization. Each year since 2012 it has sponsored a fundraising exhibition, holding an auction to raise money to support its efforts. A visual artist is given a story a veteran has written about their experience. The visual artist creates a work of art based on their story. This is my interpretation of Kevin Rumley' story. Kevin is a wounded Marine veteran. After the military he became a licensed social worker and addition specialist. Kevin says the most healing endeavor has been his drumming. He plays in several bands. "Music has been incredibly healing When I am behind the drum set, I am at peace. I am in the present moment, and it is all perfect." Kevin is Program Director for the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court.
The pieces will be traveling to Columbia, South Carolina, Asheville, North Carolina and possibly Charleston, South Carolina. The exhibitions start in November 2021.
On display in Asheville, December 3rd, 2021 at One World Brewing West.
The artist receives a percentage of the auction price. This is a win, win, win deal.
The patron gains an original art work, the organization gains financial support and the artist is able to keep producing work.
Thanks and increase the peace.
