Sobremesa

Saturday, July 10, 2021, 12:00 PM-3:00 PM

Salvage Station | 468 Riverside Drive, Asheville, NC 28801

$125 per person

Event Style: Small Plates & Drinks: 15 mouth-watering dishes to savor!!

Savor the authentic sights, aromas, and flavors inspired by open-air food markets at Sobremesa. Markets, which dot cities in villages across Mexico, and Central and South America, are among the best ways to experience authentic local culture and some of the best eats. At this vibrant event, meander through a true feast of the senses while watching Asheville's most celebrated Latinx chefs showcase their techniques as they cook over an open fire, while fresh churro batter sizzles and cheese melts from a mouthwatering pupusa onto a hot griddle.

Your ticket to Sobremesa includes: cocktail hour with refreshing cocktails, wines and beers; an array delicious tapas created in collaboration by a team of talented chefs; Latin music, a thoughtful conversation moderated by Luis Carlos Serapio - Descubre Asheville, highlighting the role of immigration in our region’s foodways with guests Marianne Martinez, executive director of Vecinos, Sergio Fernandez, executive director of El Centro and Santiago Vargas, Chef - Pachamama5.

Sobremesa, literally “over the table,” is a word that describes the ritual of families and friends lingering over a meal to chat -- often into the early morning hours. It’s when the food coma kicks in, but you just want to relax and be in each other’s company, occasionally picking at leftovers or refilling your glass. In honor of Asheville’s vibrant Latinx/Hispanic community, this event will celebrate the rich and diverse food traditions that stretch from Mexico to the Southernmost tip of Argentina - including such items as lamb neck birria, rabbit hoe cake, chicharron pupusas, Venezuelan tequenos con guasacaca and much much more!

Featured Chefs/Restaurants: Santiago Vargas - Pachamama5, Patty Saenz - Pupuseria Patty, Hector Revilla - Benne on Eagle, Ryan Kline - Zambra, Dano Holcomb - Root Down
