Chef A.J. Gregson was born in South Florida and raised in the Pee-Dee River Basin area of South Carolina. After attending Johnson & Wales in Miami FL, Gregson returned to the Carolinas where he became Executive Chef at Table 16 in Greensboro NC. He moved to Asheville in 2011 taking a line-cook position at the One Stop Deli where he quickly moved up to the Kitchen Manager position. Soon after he met his wife Autumn Pittman and together they started the Mojo Taco Lounge as a pop-up festival kitchen and began to travel around working music festivals in the Summer of 2012. Gaining a following on the road, the team took over operations at the One Stop kitchen and opened the Mojo Kitchen, which quickly became a staple in the late-night food scene for over 5 years. Chef Gregson has won many local accolades and People’s choice awards over the years, including local Food Fan Stu Helm’s “Chef of the year in 2017” along with having the best brunch bite in Asheville. They also won Asheville Food Truck Showdown in 2017. Other awards include best of WNC best late night, Asheville Wing Wars, Tempeh Taco Challenge and Tempeh Reuben. The team recently closed their brick & mortar location for Mojo Kitchen to focus on their new endeavor at Black Bear BBQ as well as expand catering & food truck events.
