Join us for a drag brunch celebration of Appalachian Pride and a hopeful look into a world in which the human rights of LGBTQ persons are respected and they are able to live with dignity, free from discrimination, persecution, and violence. Chefs Michelle Bailey - Smoky Park Supper Club, J Chong - J Chong Eats, Silver Cousler - Neng's Jr, and Ashleigh Shanti will share their own personal stories about identity and equality, and finding family and community through cooking. Through an engaging discussion, you will learn about the important and critical work being accomplished by the Campaign for Southern Equality, Equality NC, Southerners on New Ground, and YouthOUTright WNC, and how you can get involved. Michelle Bailey (she/they) was born in Memphis, TN, and has called WNC home for the past 22 years. Bailey is a master of wood-fired cooking and has a passion for sourcing ingredients from local farmers and foragers. She is currently most inspired by cooking with live fire, networking with local food vendors and encouraging aspiring chefs to hone their craft. At Smoky Park Supper Club, they lead a small, passionate team who are dedicated to good, local food and bringing people together.
×Cousler, a Filipinx lifelong Southern resident chef who has cooked in Manila, Quezon City, Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. Food and identity are not separate, and they have landed right where they began: between the American South and the Philippines.
×J (she/her) is originally from Toronto, and calls Asheville, NC home. J is passionate about bringing Cantonese food to WNC. She sells dumplings and sauces at local farmers markets, leads cooking classes and offers private dinners. J believes that food is medicine and food brings people together. J is a proud and vocal Asian queer activist for LGBTQ+, BIPOC and AAPI people and continues to use her voice to fight against racial injustice. She serves on the boards for Campaign for Southern Equality and Asheville Strong.
×Shanti (she/her) is chef and creator of Asheville, NC-based pop up fish fry (and upcoming fish camp), Good Hot Fish. Her cuisine honors Black foodways while also paying homage to her coastal Virginia upbringing where she stripped collard greens before she could walk. Southern Appalachian cuisine is her culinary love language. She was awarded 2019 Eater Young Gun and named a 2020 finalist for James Beard “Rising Star Chef of the Year.” She can currently be seen competing on Bravo’s Top Chef Houston.

In 2019 while on a little hiatus in Tampa, FL, Neomi (she/her) started eating ice pops from a local shop when an idea was sparked. After eating a coconut pop that made her feel nostalgic for her time as a child in Puerto Rico, she immediately started testing recipes for her signature flavor, coconut cinnamon. Before she knew it, Neomi owned a trike, learned a whole lot about dry ice, and was the proud owner of a small BIPOC woman-owned gourmet ice pop business in Asheville, NC.
×Third-generation Ashevillian and CEO at JAWBREAKING Creative. In his role, he acts as editor-in-chief of jawbreaking.xyz (a content platform dedicated to intersectional storytelling) and as the head of his marketing agency.

The Campaign for Southern Equality is working to build a South where LGBTQ people are equal in every part of life. Al deepens and expands CSE’s community and works with commitments to racial equity and mobilizing resources.
×Adrian is a non-binary, latinx individual who uses they, he, and she pronouns. They have been the executive director of Youth OUTright since 2018. They are honored to build power with the queer youth of WNC, cultivating a culture of consent, equity and compassion from a youth centered lens.
×I use they/them/elle pronouns and I am from Hendersonville, NC. I support the growth and leadership of our SONG membership across the South. I have a strong commitment to building autonomous and dignified community away from policing and prisons.
×Spike is a non-binary, Black individual using they/them pronouns only. As the YPM Spike oversees the designing and implementation of all and everything programmatic and acts as one of the bridges for communications in the organization.
