Jen Currier moved to Asheville in 2013 to satiate her passion for home brewing by pursuing a Brewing, Distillation, and Fermentation Sciences degree. As part of her degree fulfillment, she interned at Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough, NC before moving back to Asheville to finish the remainder of her classes. During this time, she began bartending at the Funkatorium, which allowed her to do two of her favorite things: talk to people and learn more about beer. In April of 2016, after a trial day at the pub, Jen was offered a position in the wood cellar making her Wicked Weed’s first female brewer. It was at this point she “fell in love with Wicked Weed’s process, our messes, and our products, and it opened my eyes to just how down and dirty you have to get in order to produce these delicate and nuanced flavors that miraculously develop in our wild and sour ales.”
During the beginning of 2017, Jen’s days were split between cellar work at the Funkatorium and demolition at the Funk House, Wicked Weed’s sour production facility. When the production facility opened in December, Jen attempted to rekindle her love for hot side and wort production, but ultimately found that she preferred life after primary tanks. She wanted to focus on inoculating, fruiting, barrel work, and blending. In June of 2018, Jen was promoted to Lead Blender, allowing her to dive even deeper into what she loves most, while experimenting with new ideas and ingredients.
