Ashley comes from a rich tradition of creative energy. Her grandfather, a former baker at Asheville’s Grove Park Inn and Biltmore Estate, first introduced her to baking as a child. Summers were spent foraging, cooking, and making herbal medicine with her sister. These roots spread and Ashley later studied herbalism at the Appalachia School of Holistic Herbalism. She homesteaded for a while, spending her days learning about beekeeping, foraging, and natural fermentation. She developed her own line of herbal body care products. Ashley was one of the first hired at Asheville’s Old World Levain Bakery, and soon became their lead baker. Here, she developed a passion for working with laminated dough and created the bakery’s popular cake program. Her unique cake designs are simple and refined, evoking the images and feelings of the natural world she so deeply loves. Her cakes feature stunning florals, created from dyed and foraged edibles. Each petal is dyed with natural plant dyes and each flower carefully formed by hand. Ashley is passionate about sharing her love of baking and her unique style of cake decorating. Her humble and creative approach inspires students to embrace tradition as well as experiment confidently. She teaches workshops around Asheville, working with The Cabbage School, Walnut Schoolhouse, and Asheville Bread Fest. She was invited to showcase her work at Here for Ha!, a studio and gallery in Marshall, NC. These days, you can find her creations at All Day Darling Asheville, at pop-ups around Asheville, or through special order.
