Winter 2017 Blue Ridge Parkway Closures

Maintenance and road repair will result in some closures to several sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway to the north and south of the Asheville corridor during the winter months.

Closure is in effect following a rock slide near Craggy Gardens. (updated 3/6/17)

A 13-mile stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway was closed Sunday, March 5th, following a weekend rock slide. The rock slide occurred near the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center at milepost 365. The parkway is closed from Ox Creek Road to the entrance to Mount Mitchell State Park.  Mount Mitchell State Park is open, but it is only accessible via the parkway from north of the state park. Please check back for updates.

Weather-related closures

During the winter, weather can cause parts of the parkway to close. Before making any travel along the parkway in the winter, please check the National Park Service's real-time road closure map: maps.nps.gov/blri/road-closures/. For regular Parkway updates on weather-related or additional closures, follow the Blue Ridge Parkway on Facebook at www.facebook.com/BlueRidgeNPS.
