What's Fresh for the 2014 Asheville Wine & Food Festival
This August, Asheville welcomes back its biggest celebration of food and drink. The Asheville Wine & Food Festival, now in its sixth year, offers three days of bites, sips, tastes and delicious competition. You're guaranteed not go to home hungry!
And one lucky fan will win an all-access experience for all three days of feasting, August 21-23. Details below.
Want to know what's new for this year's celebration? We have the inside scoop, if you will, on what to expect and how best to savor the 2014 Asheville Wine & Food Festival:
- Elixir, an Evening of Craft Cocktails: This boozy event was added to the AWFF line-up in 2013, but this year's evening will introduce an element of mystery. Elixir--part spirits tasting, part mixology competition--offers a Prohibition theme for its August 21st event, complete with an undisclosed location and "secret knock" required to gain entry. For maximum fun, consider booking a ticket that includes transportation on Asheville's hilariously purple LaZoom bus.
- Sweet, a Decadent Tribute to Dessert: You will definitely want to skip dinner on Friday, August 22nd to save plenty of room for dessert! Every sweet tooth will be satisfied by local bakers, chocolatiers, pâtissiers, wine vendors, brewers and distillers. This shindig of sugar takes place in downtown's Grove Arcade and also includes live gypsy jazz by One Leg Up jazz band.
- Asheville Scene Chefs Challenge, a Tasty Tournament: These Iron Chef-style competitions have been a part of the AWFF for a few years, but there are tempting new twists this year. Both local and regional chefs have been battling it out in weekly competition for the past few weeks, and the top two chefs (determined by total scores) will face off at the Grand Tasting on August 23.
- The Grand Tasting, a Scrumptious Smorgasbord: On the off-chance that you're still hungry by the time Saturday comes along, you won't want to miss the main event. More than 125 local and international wineries, a bevy of local Beer City and area brewers, regional distilleries, restaurateurs and chefs, farmers, and artisan food producers will be there to share their products and dishes. Plus, visitors can enjoy cooking demos, wine-tasting classes and more.
Complete the tasks in the contest widget below to be entered to win a pair of tickets to each of the AWFF events: Elixir, Sweet and the Grand Tasting. A winner will be selected at random from among the eligible entries on Wednesday, August 13.
