Musician David Holt Delivers the 'State of Music'
Local legend hosts new PBS series

One of Asheville's best-known musicians, David Holt, arrived in the area more than 40 years ago, looking to learn more about the region's musical roots. And learn, he did.

Adding to a career that has included touring with the legendary Doc Watson, performing on the Grand Ole Opry and winning four Grammy awards, Holt is now sharing the sounds, songs, instruments and people who have been his teachers along the way in a new public television series. David Holt's State of Music premiered on UNC-TV on Thursday, January 29th at 10 p.m.

On the show, Holt introduces viewers to some of today's champions of traditional music, including guitarist Brian Sutton, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and local bluegrass favorites Balsam Range.

Watch the show's trailer below, and learn more about Holt's personal story by listening to his interview on WUNC's The State of Things.
