Asheville is so often praised for its creativity and its craft heritage that it's certainly no surprise that the folks over at Martha Stewart Living have caught on.

Out of thousands of nominees in the categories of craft, design, food and style, eight Asheville-area businesses have been named finalists for the Martha Stewart American Made Awards.

Out of the remaining pool of 1,000 contestants, there will be nine winners selected by a panel of judges made up of Martha Stewart Living magazine's executive editors. The tenth award winner will be selected by an audience vote.

Winners receive $10,000 to grow their businesses, a trip to New York and profiles on the magazine's website. PLUS, the most active voters are also eligible to win great prizes.

The Martha Stewart American Made Awards are in their third year. In 2013, four local businesses made it to the finalist round.

Audience Choice Award voting is open through October 13, and each voter is permitted six votes each day. Since Asheville has more than six finalists up for the prize, you'll have to use your votes judiciously.
