Grub Crawl: The Tastiest of ToursCulinary tours heat up area food scene
For foodie travelers, a vacation just isn't a vacation without dining at as many area hotspots as possible. And for those on a tight schedule or tight budget, the list of 250 Asheville-area restaurants can be as daunting as it is enticing.
Food tours are the perfect solution. Participants can taste from specially prepared small plates at six or more local restaurants, and there's enough food served over the course of a 2-3 hour tour that there's no need for lunch!
A brand new tour kicks off this month that will spotlight culinary offerings in the nearby town of Black Mountain. Creative Mountain Food Tours offers the Ultimate Foodie Tour, featuring stops at six distinctly different Black Mountain eateries. Owners Len and Sandi Eskew chose their stops carefully--all participating restaurants are within easy walking distance of downtown Black Mountain, and are all are owned by locals who are enthusiastic to tell the stories of both their food and their restaurant location. Creative Mountain Food Tours will also offer a dessert tour and a "Pub and Grub Crawl" that will include local bars and breweries.
In downtown Asheville, Eating Asheville Tours and Asheville Food Tours each offer delectable walking tours with stops at the city's top restaurants. Participants have the opportunity to meet the chefs who have prepared the food and also learn about the city itself between stops.
And if a walking tour is too slow for your taste, consider the Sweet Asheville Dash from Asheville Running Tours. This 5k-distance group run promises ice cream, chocolate, cookies and cake!
