Foodspotting: The Soda Fountain

Foodspotting: The Soda Fountain
Asheville Insider Tip: Visit Asheville's Retro Diner For Frozen Treats.

Located inside the Woolworth Walk, one of downtown Asheville's historic landmarks, is a soda shop restored to its former glory. The Soda Fountain is a throwback to a 1950's diner and was built to resemble the original luncheonette located in the Woolworth store.

The eatery is open daily and serves many of the original menu items, including egg creams, club sandwiches, coffee, old fashioned ice cream sodas and some incredible milkshake creations (ever tried a bacon shake?).

F.W. Woolworth was established in 1938 as a five and dime store, however the retail giant eventually closed the store and shifted focus to their Foot Locker brand instead. In 2001, the space was restored as an art gallery and renamed the Woolworth Walk, where you can peruse the work of over 150 artists.
