Elevator Reopens at Chimney Rock State Park

Chimney Rock

You once again are able to reach Chimney Rock and The Sky Lounge in just 32 seconds!

Chimney Rock State Park has just announced that the elevator to Chimney Rock is back up and running. The elevator had been closed since 2015 for repairs. Repairs took time given the elevator is one of the few in the world located inside a mountain!

All of the trails are open, including the new stairs that lead up to "the rock" and down to towering Hickory Nut Falls. These trails offer a scenic route for those looking for good hike.

Visitors will notice the upper parking area is closed at this time due to damage from rain earlier in 2018. The good news -- Chimney Rock State Park is running shuttles from The Meadows midway in the Park to the top lot.

Given the current shuttle bus arrangement, guests should be prepared to board the bus under their own power and walk about 100 yards uphill from the drop-off point to the elevator tunnel, according to information provided by the park.

If you are unable to make the walk, Chimney Rock State Park leaders recommend visiting when the upper parking lot is repaired. The upper parking lot is expected to reopen by late this summer.
