Cold Weather Welcomes SkiersCool temps mean a hot start to ski season
A snap of mid-November cold weather has kicked off the ski season at a handful of area slopes.
Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley (about 40 minutes from Asheville) is hard at working making fresh snow and plans to open to skiers beginning today. The ski area is offering reduced rate lift tickets and an opportunity to win a season pass for early season visitors.
Cataloochee also has a new deck on the front of its lodge for this season and is home to "Tube World," which is scheduled to open in December. Interested visitors should call the ski area for details.
Asheville's other nearby slope, the Wolf Ridge Ski Resort in Mars Hill, is about 20 minutes away. They have not yet begun producing snow for this season, but they have some great things in store for visitors this year. Look for BOGO lift ticket deals on Tuesdays, or book a cabin with Carolina Mornings to receive a "Ski the Wolf" pass for each day of your stay.
