Asheville's Next Celebrity Chef
Katie Button to host international TV series

Just a few short months after she walked the red carpet as a James Beard Award nominee for Rising Star Chef, Katie Button found herself in the spotlight again at the Barcelona premier of the new television series World's Best Chefs.

The series follows 12 top chefs from around the globe, including two of Button's mentors--José Andrés and Ferran Adrià. Button is the show's host and has spent much of the past year traveling to and cooking in world-famous kitchens in Italy, France and Spain.

The show recently debuted on the new FOX Life channel in Spain, and is set for a September 22 premier on NatGeo's Asia channels. No word yet on an air date for the U.S.

Button, along with her family, opened Cúrate tapas bar in downtown Asheville in 2011 and followed with speak-easy style bar and eatery The Nightbell early this year.

Her story and recipes have been featured in national magazines and on popular websites several times in recent months, including on Food & Wine, which highlighted Nightbell's crunchy Crackersnacks--a creative twist on the traditional Cracker Jack. Online magazine Sift included Curate's berenjenas la taberna--one of the restaurant's most popular and most surprising dishes--in an article on two ways to cook the perfect eggplant dish.

And soon you can look for Katie Button on the shelf of your favorite bookstore. Button announced a cookbook deal with Flatiron Books earlier this year. The 125-recipe book will take the authentic Spanish tapas style of Cúrate and make it approachable for the home cook.
