5 Asheville Food Festivals to Savor in MaySeasonal Flavors Take Center Stage
|The Asheville Herb Festival will be held May 1-3, 2015.|
Mark your calendars for these five delicious dates:
Asheville Herb Festival | May 1-3
For more than 25 years this flavorful festival has been spicing things up for kitchens and gardens. Their motto, "If it's herbs, it's here," offers a good idea of what visitors will encounter: plants, seasonings, medicinals, soaps, cooking herbs, cookbooks and organic garden information, for a start. The Asheville Herb Festival is held at the WNC Farmers Market and opens early (8:30 a.m.!) on Friday and Saturday.
Asheville Artisan Bread Bakers Festival | May 2
This day-long event is jam-packed with workshops and lectures that celebrate the handiwork of local farmers, millers and bakers. Sample local breads and cheeses at the showcase, then take a class in homemade croissants or tour the Carolina Ground Mill, then stick around for dinner and drinks with the bakers. On May 3rd, the festival continues with an intensive master class for professional bakers. All events are ticketed separately and most are held at the Magnolia Building on the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College campus.
Sharpen the Blades Saison Fest | May 2
One of Asheville hottest new breweries, Burial Beer Co., is throwing a party in honor of the saison, a refreshing farmhouse ale variety. More than 30 local breweries will be tapping their brews, including local favorites and North Carolina craft brewers from the mountains to the sea. Enjoy a pour in the South Slope's newest beer garden, plus food from James Bear-recognized chef Elliott Moss.
Rock the Taste | May 7
Head east from Asheville to the charming town of Black Mountain for an unforgettable night of food and beer from area restaurants and breweries. Get your tickets early--this event held at the White Horse Black Mountain always sells out!
Asheville Beer Week | May 22-30
For those who will be at a loss when North Carolina Beer Month comes to an end, the ideal remedy is a full week (and then some!) of events dedicated to Asheville's 21 craft breweries. There's not much on the calendar just yet, but stay tuned for beer releases, collaboration brews, beer pairing dinners, educational workshops and much more. As always, festivities will culminate in the 6th Annual Beer City Festival held in downtown's Pack Square Park on May 30.
