4 Fabulous July 4th Celebrations in AshevilleHave a blast with food and fireworks
Don your red, white and blue, cue up the Sousa, and come on down for some great Independence Day celebrations in Asheville.
Making last-minute plans for the holiday weekend? Here are four great bets for this year's Fourth of July:
In downtown Asheville, the Ingles Independence Day Celebration will kick off on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. and will feature inflatables and kids activities, local food trucks and craft beer, shows by the Ultimate Air Dogs and live music. The fireworks extravaganza begins at 9:30 p.m., and the whole event is free!
For a list of other fireworks displays and holiday events, check out this story from the Mountain Xpress.
For a fun and family-friendly activity, check out the Craggy Mountain Line Railroad, offering July 4th rides all afternoon. The $10 ticket includes a hot dog, drink and cookie.
If you're feeling hungry for some Fourth festivities, head down to the River Arts District where The Junction is hosting a traditional pig pickin', featuring Apple Brandy Farms pork and vegetarian sides, plus cocktail specials and beer.
And if Coney Island is a little too far away this weekend, get your fill of an all-American hot dog eating contest at two Thirsty Monk locations around town. The winner gets $100 and the title of Wiener Champion!
