Transforming Anxiety & Anger: Ancient Wisdom Meets Contemplative Science

Nov 05, 2026
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • What can a Tibetan Buddhist nun trained in science teach us about staying steady in hard times?

Join Venerable Ani Choyang for an afternoon talk about her path—escaping Tibet in her teens, becoming a Buddhist nun ordained under the Dalai Lama, advocating for women in Buddhism, and training in contemplative science at Emory and Northwestern Universities. The conversation will then turn to what Buddhism and contemplative science can offer when working with difficult emotions such as anxiety and anger.

Dr. Renuka Gusain (UNCA Interdisciplinary Studies) will moderate a Q&A and discussion with Ani Choyang, drawing on your own questions. See below to submit your question(s) to help shape the conversation.

The event will conclude with an optional guided meditation practice.

    • Thu, November 5, 4:00–6:00 pm
    • Blue Ridge Room, Highsmith Student Union (2nd floor)
UNC Asheville, One University Heights, Asheville, NC
